Humanely raised, 100% grass fed beef & lamb

Nestled along the banks of the Little River, our family-run ranch is rooted in regeneration. We raise 100% grass-fed beef and lamb, produce compost through our North Country Compost service, and collect fresh eggs from hens nourished on our compost-fed pastures. Visitors can also enjoy our scenic walking and ski trails, connecting with the land that sustains us.

Healthy soil, thriving animals, and a vibrant community — it all starts here.

Who we are

Little River Ranch was founded in 2021.  The operation run by Cory Vinyard and his wife, Sarah Barber aims to provide grassfed beef and lamb at reasonable prices to the local community. It includes a community composting enterprise that enables area residents to divert food scraps from landfills. Food scraps are transformed into compost available to the community and feed for Little River Ranches flock of laying hens whose eggs are sold to compost customers.  Little River Ranch is guided by sustainable principles with the goal of participating in a circular economy that supports the north country.

Avoid the trauma of the abattoir

Did you know; the stress of the slaughterhouse impacts the flavor of the meat?

How stress can affect meat quality

  • Glycogen depletion: Stress triggers the release of hormones like adrenaline and cortisol, which use up the body's glycogen (stored energy).

  • Disrupted acidification: Glycogen normally converts to lactic acid after slaughter, a process that lowers the meat's pH. This low pH makes the meat tender, flavorful, and juicy.

  • Higher pH: With depleted glycogen, less lactic acid is produced, leaving the meat with a higher, less acidic pH.
